Saturday 28th April 2018 proved to be a bright and sunny day for the Annual Conclave meeting of the Division of Surrey held at Croydon Masonic Halls, Croydon Surrey.

The Worthy Knights of the Division having assembled in the Wheeler Temple stood to welcome with warm applause, processions of members of the Past Executive of Surrey, Heads of other Orders and distinguished guests from other Divisions. The Right Illustrious Intendant-General, attended by the Deputy Intendant-General and Divisional Officers of the year then entered in procession into Divisional Conclave.

The Intendant-General welcomed all present and opened a Conclave of the Division of at 11.00am. He was then proclaimed by the Divisional Marshal and saluted by all present.

It was the sad duty of the Deputy Intendant-General to then read the names of two members of the Division who had died since the last meeting. The Divisional Prelate conducted a requiem with all present standing in silent tribute to the memory of departed friends.

The Intendant-General warmly welcomed Roy Leavers, a Past Intendant-General of the Division, distinguished guests from Divisions up and down the country including Hampshire & Isle of Wight, Somerset and Bristol, Essex, Thames, Metropolitan and East Anglia together with representatives of many of the other Masonic Orders in Surrey and not forgetting Past Members of the Executive of the Surrey Division.

The Roll of Officers of Divisional Conclave was called and then, having been assembled by the Divisional Marshal, the Standard Bearers of the Conclaves in the Division withdrew and then re-entered to parade the Standards. The Knights of the Division stood whilst the names of the Conclaves were called by the Divisional Registrar.

The business part of the meeting commenced with adoption of the minutes of the previous meeting followed by the Divisional Recorder who presented his report on the past year and this was followed by the presentation of the Accounts by the Divisional Treasurer together with his report and his announcement that Divisional annual dues and fees would remain unchanged for the ensuing year. The Divisional Treasurer and the Examiners of the Division’s Accounts were all re-elected for a further year.

Finally, to end the business part of the meeting, the members of the Division supported a proposal by the Divisional Recorder, seconded by the Deputy Intendant-General to make a contribution to the Surrey Craft 2019 Festival in aid of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution and the Intendant-General was delighted to be able to present a cheque to the RW Provincial Grand Master for £2,500 at the luncheon following the meeting.

With the re-appointment of P Kt Andrew George Sales, JP as his Deputy, the Intendant-General proceeded to invest the Officers of the Division for the year and confer Promotions and Appointments to Past Rank in the Division.

The Intendant General re-appointed the Commander and Deputy Commander of the Divisional Guard and received the members of the Guard expressing his thanks to all the members for their unstinting service during the past year.

The Intendant-General then addressed Divisional Conclave.

After the regular business of the Divisional Conclave had been completed the Right Illustrious Intendant-General closed the Divisional Conclave of Surrey and the National Anthem followed by the Closing Hymn – When I Survey the Wondrous Cross - were sung.

The Right Illustrious Intendant-General, accompanied by the Deputy Intendant-General, the Right Illustrious Past Intendant-General, Right Illustrious Knights, Very Illustrious Knights and other Distinguished Guests of the Division retired in procession under the direction of the Divisional Marshal.

After the meeting the Knights of the Division of Surrey and their guests sat down to a most convivial luncheon in the Croydon Masonic Hall.
